Our Dorset Life

Hidden down a little alleyway in Bridport, Dorshi is one of those places that makes you feel instantly smug for knowing it exists. Locals love it, visitors are always delighted by it and for good reason. Oh and book in advance, you will thank me!

It’s small, lively, and full of character, with a kind of southeast Asian-meets-West Dorset feel that makes it unlike anywhere else. The interiors are relaxed and playful; think clipped paper menus, breezy curtains, and that slightly chaotic energy that comes from a place run by people who really love what they do. (And know their flavours.)

Dumplings First, Always

The dumplings are what Dorshi’s known for, and they deliver. We have tried a few in our many visits (okay, probably all of them) and they are packed with flavour, crispy on the outside, succulent inside, and totally addictive. If you find a favourite, which you definitely will you can order more and everyone usually does! Favourites? The the hot smoked fish with capers, the chicken lime & pepper and somehow it really works – the Dorset red cheddar and mushroom. Yum!

Beyond the Dumplings

Depending on the day you visit and the specials you can always find delicious plates on the menu. Over the years I have loved the scallop specials and noodle dishes.

The whole menu has this beautiful balance of boldness and comfort. It’s experimental, but never in a “trying too hard” way. More like: this is food we love to eat, and think you will too.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, I feel lucky to have Dorshi just down the road. It’s inventive without being intimidating, cosy but exciting, and always full of people who look like they’re having a genuinely great time. Whether you live here or you’re just passing through, put it on your list.

Perfect for a date night, dinner with friends, or that kind of “we deserve something delicious” evening. Bridport’s full of surprises, and Dorshi might just be one of its best.
