Our Dorset Life

In February, we packed up the car and headed to Fairoaks Barns in Herefordshire to celebrate a family birthday. Nestled in the village of Hollybush and just over five miles from Ledbury, it was the perfect place for a weekend with grandparents, siblings, cousins and kids all under (several!) roofs.

We stayed across two of the barns, which gave us the perfect mix of space to spread out and cosy corners to come together. Surrounded by rolling countryside, Fairoaks felt like one of those rare finds, tucked away and peaceful but still close enough to a town if you needed supplies (or a coffee).

Cosy Barn Conversions with Room for Everyone

Fairoaks is made up of a small collection of converted barns, each full of character from exposed beams and vaulted ceilings to spiral staircases and statement lighting. They’ve been designed really thoughtfully, with everything you need for a comfortable stay: plenty of space, lovely kitchens, and big family tables for breakfast or board games.

Each barn has its own personality and the layouts work brilliantly for groups, especially if you’ve got a mix of ages.

The Pool, the Walks, the Space to Slow Down

The highlight for us was The Pool House. The indoor pool was such a treat in February, the children didn’t want to get out. The building also has changing rooms, shower rooms and a big kitchen/dining space that’s ideal for large group meals.

We used the large room on one of the nights to have a catered meal and then a disco (mostly for the kids) and it was a perfect space!

During the day, we layered up and went for walks straight from the barns. The surrounding countryside is classic Herefordshire, hilly, green, and full of fresh air.

Would We Go Again?

Absolutely. Fairoaks Barns is one of those places that manages to feel both relaxed and luxurious, and it works just as well for big family get-togethers as it would for a quiet countryside break. The mix of spaces, the indoor pool, and the ease of being somewhere that just works for everyone, young children to grandparents, meant we all came away feeling well-rested and full of good memories.
