There’s nothing quite like a Sunday by the sea and Old Harry Rocks Bar & Restaurant in Bournemouth delivered exactly the kind of cosy, coastal comfort we were hoping for.
We were staying at The Nici hotel, which old Harry Rocks shares grounds with and after a lovely afternoon enjoying the pool at The Nici and a massage for me, we headed to Old Harry Rocks for their famous Sunday roast, and it didn’t disappoint.
The Setting
Old Harry Rocks sits just a short stroll from Bournemouth’s beaches, tucked into a lively corner near the promenade. The restaurant has a relaxed but refined feel bright and modern, with soft tones, warm lighting, and big windows that let the coastal light pour in. There’s also a spacious terrace for sunnier days, where you can enjoy a drink while looking out towards the sea. We have been to the Nici in the summer months and drinks are served from Old Harry if you’re relaxing by the pool – the iced coffee’s are very good!

The Food
We went for two courses for £29, which felt like great value given the quality.

To start, we shared the mozzarella with fig, radicchio and truffle honey, and the whisky-cured salmon with sauce gribiche and crispy shallot. Both were beautifully balanced, the mozzarella dish was rich and creamy with just the right hint of sweetness, while the salmon was fresh and full of texture.

For mains, we chose the roast top rump of beef and slow-roast pork belly, both served with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, bacon carrots, buttered cabbage, and unlimited gravy. Everything tasted freshly cooked and perfectly seasoned, classic Sunday roast flavours done with real care. For dessert we shared the espresso tiramisu, it was delicious!

The Atmosphere
The restaurant was busy but never too loud, with a mix of families, couples, and groups enjoying that Sunday ritual. The service was warm and effortless, adding to the easy-going atmosphere. There was a DJ too, it made a really good atmosphere!
The Verdict
Old Harry Rocks is one of those places that gets the balance just right relaxed yet polished, modern but full of heart. Whether you’re local or visiting for the weekend, it’s well worth making this your Sunday stop.
