There’s something extra special about escaping to the coast in winter, the crisp air, the calm sea, and the chance to slow down. We recently returned to The Nici Hotel in Bournemouth for a little winter recharge, and it was every bit as relaxing as our summer stay, it really is one of our favourite places to escape as parents!
A Year-Round Escape
Perched high above the sea on Bournemouth’s West Cliff, The Nici is one of those places that feels like a getaway without even leaving Dorset. In summer it’s palm trees and poolside cocktails, but in winter it transforms into a cosy coastal retreat.
From the spa, to the Miami-meets-Mediterranean design still brings all the sunshine vibes, even on grey days. We love the walks down from the Nici to the beach below, start the walk in the morning as the sun as coming up and it makes for beautiful views.
The Spa: A Winter Sanctuary
The highlight of our stay was definitely The Nici Spa, which becomes the perfect hideaway when it’s cold outside. The indoor pool, sauna, and steam room are beautifully designed, and the day beds are so comfortable you’ll never want to leave.
We took advantage of their £70 spa offer, which included a day at the spa and The Nici’s signature massage, absolute bliss and such good value for a five-star experience. Treatments here use high-end products from OTO and Oskia, and you can truly feel the difference.
If you’re looking for something a little more indulgent, their Radiance Ritual (£99) combines a luxury facial with LED light therapy to give you that post-holiday glow, or try the Relax & Renew Spa Day (from £129) which includes a 60-minute treatment, two-course lunch, and full access to the spa and pools.
Rooms with a View
We decided to make a stay of it this time and stayed in a sea view suite, and it couldn’t have been more perfect for a winter weekend. With a roll-top bath, small balcony, and sweeping views across the pool and sea, it was the kind of room you don’t want to leave.
We decided to make the most of the view and ordered breakfast to the room. It was such a treat and we would 100% do this again!

The Verdict
