We recently stayed at The Sunray in Osmington, a beautifully restored Dorset pub with holiday cottages, just outside Weymouth and close to the Jurassic Coast.

It’s one of those places that feels made for a proper Dorset escape: a pretty village setting, beautiful stone buildings, good food, cosy accommodation and the coast not far away.
We stayed for one night in one of the new one-bedroom cottages with a hot tub, and it made such a lovely little break.

As soon as you arrive at The Sunray Osmington, it feels like a bit of a hidden gem. The buildings are full of character, with that warm Dorset stone that always makes a place feel rooted in its surroundings. It still has the feel of a traditional village pub, but everything has been brought back to life in a way that feels fresh, calm and really considered.
The pub itself feels smart without being too formal, which is always the sweet spot for us. It’s somewhere you could go for a lovely meal, but still feel completely relaxed.
Outside, there is a gorgeous pub garden and a children’s play area, which makes it feel like a place that works for lots of different occasions. A meal with the children. A weekend away. A post-beach drink. Or, like us, a night away with good food and a hot tub waiting afterwards.

Staying at The Sunray cottages
We stayed in one of the one-bedroom cottages, The Lambing Barn which was perfect for a night away in Dorset.

The accommodation felt cosy, calm and really well finished. It had that lovely mix of old and new: character from the setting, but with the comfort you want from a modern stay.
The cottage would be perfect for a couple’s night away, a birthday treat, an anniversary stay or a peaceful Dorset base if you wanted to explore Weymouth, Osmington, Ringstead or the Jurassic Coast.
The real highlight of our cottage was having our own hot tub. There is something very special about being able to come back after dinner, step outside and properly switch off for a bit. It made the whole stay feel that little bit more special. It was south facing so we had lovely evening sun when we stayed, it was the perfect place to relax!
If you’re looking for a Dorset pub stay with a hot tub, The Sunray is definitely one to have on your list.
Eating at The Sunray pub
Food was a big part of the reason we were excited to visit, and dinner didn’t disappoint.
To start, we had the burrata and prawn cocktail. Both felt like exactly the kind of dishes you want in a coastal pub: simple, fresh and full of flavour.

For mains, I had the catch of the day and Nick had the steak. The sea bass was delicious, I love having sea food by the sea!

It’s the sort of place I’d happily come back to just for lunch or dinner, even without staying over.
Is The Sunray family-friendly?
Yes, The Sunray feels very family-friendly and we noticed a lot of families eating in the pub and children playing outside whilst we were there.
One of the things I really liked is that it feels grown-up and beautifully done, but still relaxed enough for families. The pub garden is lovely, and having a children’s play area makes such a difference if you’re visiting with little ones.
It means parents can actually enjoy a drink or a meal while the children have a bit of space to play.
The Sunray would be a lovely spot for a relaxed Sunday lunch, a summer evening meal or somewhere to meet friends with children where everyone can enjoy it.

We loved being so close to the coast. Nearby, you can find beautiful views across towards Weymouth and Portland, and it’s the kind of area that makes you want to slow down a bit.
A beach walk, a pub lunch, a drive along the coast, then back to the cottage for the evening. Very much our kind of Dorset stay.
If you’re staying longer, you could easily spend your time exploring Weymouth beach and harbour, heading towards Ringstead, or just enjoying the countryside and coastline around Osmington.
